Tony Hawk And The Sandbox Partner To Create The World’s Biggest Skatepark —In The Metaverse

Despite the steep decline in the cryptocurrency market, the games based on the metaverse continue to gather the attention of those who dream of finding a virtual land where everyone can enjoy a unique and fun experience beyond the barriers of the real world.

On July 13, Tony Hawk, one of the world’s most famous and recognized skateboarders, announced his partnership with the blockchain-based virtual world The Sandbox to build the “largest virtual skatepark ever made.”  This would be the latest of a large list of Top-tier partnerships for The Sanbox.

According to a video posted by The Sandbox and shared by Hawk, Hawk’s metaverse will not only have a marketplace to sell skateboards and skate accessories but will also give users access to editing tools to create the skatepark of their dreams.

The World’s Largest Virtual Skatepark Will Be In The Sandbox

The “Tony Hawk LAND” will feature 36 plots of land, according to The Sandbox, which is enough merit to earn it its title as the world’s largest skatepark ever created in the metaverse.

Tony Hawk said in a presentation that the skatepark “will be something never seen before.” Significant words, considering that his “Tony Hawk Pro Skater” game series grossed more than $1.4 billion —and features a lot of skateparks and routes.

“I have been a fan of new technology all of my life – from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities – so I am fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox.”

Neither The Sandbox nor Tony Hawk revealed any details about when will this skate metaverse launch.

Autograph Will Be Designing Hawk’s Nfts

Autograph will create NFTs and avatars based on Tony Hawk as well as his most iconic skateboards, gear, and clothing, such as the one he used at the 1999 X Games, when he landed his legendary 900 (2.5-lap) turn, considered an “immortal” achievement in the skateboarding world.

Dillon Rosenblatt, co-founder and CEO at Autograph said the company was excited to work with both The Sandbox and Tony Hawk to build new immersive experiences that would be impossible to create outside of the metaverse.

“At Autograph, we strive to build otherwise impossible experiences for communities of fans and this is a step towards our goal of connecting them uniquely and at scale to Tony Hawk and each other […] We are thrilled to be working with The Sandbox and Tony Hawk on this activation and many others.”

Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, said that his company shares Hawk’s vision and passion for innovation and creativity.

In doing so, Tony Hawk joins more than 300 successful artists, brands, and companies that are betting on the growth of the metaverse to take their iconic brands to the next level.
